Assessment and Support

Discuss your needs with an expert

APT was founded by education experts and former headteachers. It is an integral part of quality support and advice services - providing reliable data, and supporting your observations and experience as parents.

Base your discussion on robust data

The assessment covers four areas:

English, Maths, Verbal reasoning and Non verbal reasoning. Tests of this kind are used to assess learning potential, identify gaps in specific areas, and monitor progress internally within schools.

Gain greater insight and explore options

Discuss your needs and any concerns with your consultant and receive tailored guidance on educational options and opportunities. APT results provide evidence to support your decisions and ongoing education journey.

A range of services

Our team is made up of expert and knowledgeable consultants, all of whom have been Heads of leading independent schools.

All services can be delivered remotely.

1. Outline chat

A former headteacher is available to chat and answer your questions, discuss outline options and provide advice and suggestions as you make initial plans regarding school options for your children. The agenda is yours, and the consultant will respond with appropriate independence and candour. This is bookable as a 30-minute discussion but can be extended if the need arises.

2. Consultation

During this 60-minute discussion, the consultant will answer your questions about your child's education and your hopes and aspirations for their future. Prior to the consultation, you will be asked to provide as much information as is deemed appropriate and relevant about your child, their educational background and their interests. After the consultation, you will be provided with a summary report outlining recommendations and next steps and, if appropriate, offering further tailored support.

3. APT assessment & feedback

The team will register your child for an APT test to be taken at home on a date of your choosing.

  • You will be provided full instructions and support on how to administer the test at home.

  • Results and a summary report will be sent to you, and followed up with a 30-minute discussion with your consultant, during which questions will be answered about the assessment findings.

  • The consultant will provide a series of recommendations and next steps, including areas that may need focused tutoring and, if appropriate, the offer of further tailored support

The APT can be used to demonstrate performance to future schools or monitor academic progress, or even as practise for other reasoning-type tests such as UKiset, ISEB Common Pretest or 11+ entrance exams.

4. Consultation & APT

During an initial 20-minute consultation, you will be asked to share information about your child and your hopes and aspirations for their education. Prior to this initial consultation, you will be asked to provide as much relevant information about their educational background and interests as you can.

We will then arrange for your child to complete the APT - which was created by the team at The English Education to provide a comprehensive and impartial appraisal of a student's academic skills.

Results and a summary report from the APT will be used during the second 40-minute consultation with parents and will, along with other evidence, lead a focused discussion about your child, suggested pathways and potential school applications. APT is often used to provide guidance on tailored tutoring support and to help facilitate conversations with the child's existing school. After the second consultation, you will be provided with a summary report, outlining recommendations and, when appropriate, offering further support going forward.
